i love ricers

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

i love ricers. just when i think i’ve heard the most retarded, ill-informed BS about cars and racing, some ricer idiot comes along and takes it to a whole new level and sends me into a fit of laughter spewing beverage from my nose. this little gem turned up on a (surprise!) nissan message board, talking about his “race” with a civic. here, have a look…

tonight coming home from work i called some dude out in a civic, i dont know what year it was, but it was a newer one 96-97? and i dont know wether it was an EX DK or LX, i do know it was manual and had an intake and exhaust, i have a 96 sentra gxe(auto) with cai and exhaust, i beat him by a car lenght all the race down, until he downshifted and took off, but not by a lot, what do u guys think? my win right? since i didnt downshift(i consider downshifting cheating)

wait wait wait. downshifting is cheating?

well, first of all my friend, lets say, u have a manual car, and u race a car in an automatic, u already have the biggest advantage of all, and if you cant beat the automatic like that……then downshifting is a coward’s way out……….

ok, so driving my car properly is the “coward’s way out?” do you exepect me to take off from a light in 5th? is it also cheating that my car makes more power than yours? if i left the parking brake on, would that make you happy?

i see your point, u dont wanna lose, but look at it this way, say were at the track, lined up…….1/4 mile run, i have a stick and u have an auto, boom we take off……….the auto cant do anything, he’s on D, shifting by ECU, while me on the other hand have a manual redlining the **** thing, i would get more power off the powerband just like that, we have the same mods, but i cant beat him fair and square?????? (meaning 1st 2nd, 3rd gears, no downshifting) shit, if I wanted extra power, i coulda used my NOS…. (one more thing that is interesting, i have a bad fuel pump so i wasnt flooring the pedal, close, but not)

who in their right mind would downshift during a drag race? drag racing is all upshifts, idiot. and if you were racing, why didn’t you use your NAAWWSSS?

hold up, i aint trying to sound dumb or nothing, but i guess u just dont get it. of course manual transmission engines are cool for racing.. for example, two cars race, and they are both manual, by all means, go ahead and downshift the **** all u want!!!, and that would be cool cuz the other guy can downshift his **** too! but if i drive a manual transmission car and i race a car in automatic(slow…..case in point) and that auto is kicking my ass, then i just got my ass kicked, nothing else to do, if i have downshift to beat him or catch up, then that **** everything up, i guess what i’m trying to say is that my car is better than his, if mine were stick, i woulda downshifted too and smoked his ass, end of discussion, besides, i coulda downshifted my auto to 2nd if i wanted too, but didnt so when he shifted back into gear, i caught up to him and passed him, thats what i’m saying, is even tho he downshifted his shit,I STILL CAUGHT UP AND KICKED HIS ASS!!

you’re an idiot.

haha, this thing got all complicated, so lemme just clear it up, we were at the light, we took off, i was beating him by a car length for some time, then he downshifted, caught up 2 me and passed me by a car and a half, but when he upshifted back into gear, i slowly caught up 2 him and beat him, i guess i made it sound like he beat me …..by him downshifting

oh, so he didn’t know you were racing, took off like normal, then realized you were trying to race him and downshifted to race you?

no no no, we were at the light, both of us stopped, the light turn green, we take off(racing) i take an advantage of 1 car length from him for about 1/4 of the race, he then downshifts, to catch up 2 me, and passes me by half a car length(then he upshifts back) when he does this, i catch up 2 him(still racing) AND PASS HIM ONCE MORE TO TAKE THE WIN!!!

you mean to tell me he downshifted from first gear?

something like that, to tell u the truth, i dont know why this dude downshifted, he was already redlining the damn thing…

he was redlining, and then downshifted? this just keeps getting better and better. have you ever even driven a car with a manual transmission?

i’ve driven a six speed, but i see what u mean, the story does seem odd, but how do u explain me beating him by a car length and then him passing me up by half a car length and then me catching up and passing him by again……and i know he was trying to catch up 2 me…..couldnt of been nitrious..could it? sure didnt hear it…………………………by the way, i really dont mean to sound like a dick when i say shit like this or nothing, i guess what i’m saying is that IN MY OPINION if a car has 125HP as base(manual) with an intake and exhaust and the other car has 115 base(auto) with same mods……. the manual car should have a HUGE advantage in this race, but in my case he didnt, his car might of not been tuned….iono, i just thought it was cool. didnt mean to flame manuals over autos…i was just referring to this race and only this race..

you’re an idiot, case closed. thanks for the laugh.

ok folks, which one will it be?

this is truly a great time to be an automotive enthusiast. we are seeing genuine horsepower wars and retro styling that brings back all the wonderful memories of 60′s muscle cars. we’ve seen a newly restyled mustang, and even a new model bearing the shelby nameplate. daimler-chrysler has revived the hemi along with the charger and now challenger nameplates. gm has brought back the gto and is slated to introduce a new camaro tomorrow. so now that we once again have the big three competing in the muscle car arena, which one would you choose?

challengerconcept.jpg

here we have the dodge challenger concept. the retro styling on this car is arguably the most well executed example to date. chances are this car will get the same engines as the charger, which would make the srt8 the top of the line model, sporting a 425 horsepower 6.1 liter hemi and there have been rumors of a six speed gearbox. this car stands to be in direct competition with the new mustang, providing at least 3 different trim levels and entering at very simliar price points to the mustang.

you may have seen my previous post with the leaked pictures of a clay model of the camaro, but this car has some considerable differences from the one in the earlier photos. it’s good to see gm reviving the camaro to foster competition, especially after the bland styling and poor sales of the gto. the camaro is rumored to have a 400hp 6.0 liter v8, presumably the ls2 that rests under the hood of the gto and the base model corvette.

shelbycobra23.jpg

and finally, the new shelby gt500. the successor to the famed terminator cobras certainly will not disappoint. it comes sporting a 5.4 liter supercharged v8 wielding 475hp that is essentially the same power plant in the ford gt. if the previous generation of cobras are any indication of what we can expect, this thing will be a monster that responds to even the most simple modifications by making ridiculous amounts of power. so, dear reader, which of these modern muscle cars would you most like to see sitting in your driveway?

black pudding

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

so today, i was poking around the internet reading about traditional irish foods. i came across quite a few things that were pretty interesting, and seemed like they might be tasty. irish stew, champ and soda bread all seemed like reasonable candidates for my dinner table. however, i kept noticing that breakfast is almost always served with black pudding. i have no idea what black pudding is, so i do the logical thing: google it. one of the first few results is a recipe for black pudding from scratch. as you can see by the picture there, it pretty much just looks like sausage, which is cool. or it was cool, until i got started reading the recipe. here, have a look:

300x193_blackpudding

1 1/4 qt Fresh pig’s blood
8 7/8 oz Bread cut into cubes
1 1/4 qt Skim milk
1 lb Cooked barley
1 lb Fresh beef suet
8 oz Fine oatmeal
1 t Salt
2 ts Ground black pepper
2 ts Dried and crumbled mint

Put the bread cubes to soak in the milk in a warm oven. Do not heat the milk beyond blood temperature! Have the blood ready in a large bowl, and pour the warm milk and bread into it. Stir in the cooked barley. Grate the beef suet into the mixture and stir it up with the oatmeal. Season with the salt, pepper and mint.

Have ready 2 or three large roasting pans. Divide the mixture between them. They should not be more than 3/4 full. Bake in a moderate oven — 350 F for about an hour or until the pudding is well cooked through. This makes a beautifully light pudding which will keep well in a cold larder.

Cut into squared and fry till heated through and the outside is crisp, in bacon fat or butter. Delicious for breakfast, or for supper with fried apples and mashed potato.

hold it right there! the main ingredient is pig’s blood!? i think that if i was expected to eat that with breakfast every morning, i’d probably drink heavily all day just to forget about it… bonus points if whatever i was drinking would fill me up so i wouldn’t have to eat that horrendous stuff again. i guess that explains why guiness comes from ireland…
